As always, it’s been a whirlwind of activity in recent months. The festive period has been and gone, we’re already into spring and next month will mark one year until the Forensic Capability Network (FCN) is delivering a clearly defined initial capability to benefit UK policing.
I was humbled to be sitting with colleagues and stakeholders alike at the recent Forensic Science Regulators Conference where the Policing Minister outlined both the good work done to date, and that planned ahead by the programme to help overcome the challenges faced in forensics.
Beyond simply a media spotlight on policing in recent weeks I have truly felt a renewed energy, at all levels, to take a unified approach to change – a collaborative effort that will make a difference not only to those working in this field, but more importantly to users of the service, namely the public.
And this isn’t a case of sharing the pain, it’s one of reaping the rewards. We clearly outlined the benefits the programme can deliver in our business case. We are now completing work to ensure we have the processes in place to effectively start evidencing and reporting these.
We will continue to utilise all opportunities to both involve you and update you on our work, including upcoming regional engagement events, Chaucer roadshows and the launch of our new TF Twitter account (@TFProgramme) earlier this week.
We have moved from discussing a vision and ideas to instead delivering some real, on the ground, long lasting and sustainable change. You, our stakeholders, are driving that work through your input and expertise and it’s exciting to see how this is shaping the design of the FCN and delivery of those initial capabilities.
