Following a workshop session earlier this month, the specification of medical kits supplied as part of the National Scenes of Crime Consumables contract have been updated.
The workshop was coordinated by the Transforming Forensics (TF) programme and the Forensic Capability Network (FCN. Representatives from across forensics took part, including police forces, the Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine (FFLM), Sexual Assault Referral Centres, service providers, the Forensic Science Regulator's Unit and Scenesafe.
Updates to the kits include changes to the components and increased quality control checks as well as changes to address end-user Health and Safety needs and sample integrity improvements.
Dr Kevin Sullivan, Transforming Forensics Standards & Accreditation SME said:
“We’d like to thank everyone who took part for taking time to help optimise the kits. I would urge all forces to purchase them via the national framework, as they have been formulated to meet the requirements of both the latest FFLM recommendations and the FSR Codes of Practice and Conduct.”
A summary document showing the agreed changes can be found in the FCN CSI Consumables folder on Knowledge Hub.
