FCN has published a new validation plan template for process and analysis of data from computer devices.

The template guides the user through the process of undertaking validation which complies with the Forensic Science Regulator’s Code of Practice.

The template is locally configurable but comes pre-populated with common end-user requirements and specification, significantly reducing the time for an organisation to produce a validation plan which works for their end-users.

Simon Cullen, FCN Lead Scientist for Digital Forensics, says:

“The validation of digital forensic methods can be a complex and onerous task. This is compounded by the rapid rate of change which requires regular revalidation to ensure methods remain fit for purpose. Having quickly configurable validation plans can help reduce the burden.”

In addition to the publication of the computer forensics validation plan FCN has also updated the existing mobile device validation plan, adding features which make the document easier to configure to meet your organisation needs.

Simon says:

“The benefits of sharing validation, either done centrally or in a peer-to-peer model, has the potential for massive time savings in gaining and maintain accreditation for digital forensics.

“One key enabler to achieving this is by standardising the way that validation studies are planned, documented, and reported. We hope that the adoption of these templates will be a significant step to achieving this.”
